Auto Insurance

Georgia's auto insurance laws differ from those in most states, and your Structured Insurance Agency, LLC agent can help you determine the best coverage for your vehicle. Georgia requires car insurance but doesn't require you to show an insurance card.

Policy Requirements

In Georgia, you have to carry liability insurance to cover injuries or damages suffered from an accident that you caused. Proof of insurance is required to register your car. In general, Georgia auto insurance must include:

  • Bodily injury liability per person and for multiple people injured in an accident
  • Property damage liability per incident.

Optional Car Insurance

Most companies that sell insurance in Georgia also offer optional coverage. Work with your Structured Insurance Agency, LLC agent to discover which optional insurance coverage is right for you.

  • Collision covers your automobile for damages suffered in an accident.
  • Comprehensive covers noncollision-related damages to your car, such as vandalism.
  • Uninsured Motorist pays for damage caused by another person with no insurance.

Other coverage options include medical, funeral, and rental car costs in the event of an accident.

If you own or lease your vehicle, your finance company or bank will require collision and comprehensive insurance.

Georgia Proof of Insurance

In Georgia, ID cards do not serve as proof of insurance. Instead, law enforcement officers check the Georgia Electronic Insurance Compliance System (GEICS) to verify this electronically. It is your insurance agency's responsibility to update this information in GEICS.

If your car insurance is canceled, you may be subject to fines and suspension of your license. You also won't be able to register your vehicle if GEICs isn't updated with your insurance policy information.
